Usagi is so late. She'd woken up after eight and her dad didn't even try to wake her. Rude. She'd even had to skip breakfast, which she hates, and now she has to run to school and is probably going to get detention - again. This whole school thing is such a drag. She can't wait to graduate and have all the free time in the world and sleep in every day.
She must be dreaming. She sits back in her chair and stares at them.
"... yeah. I have all her comics and I've played all the video games."
They make a low mrr noise, "She is not the only one of her kind. The others have simply not been Called yet." They lift their paw off the brooch and nudge it towards her, "Until now," they add. Their bland voice doesn't quite manage to leech the inherent drama of that phrase, but it certainly tries.
She blinks down at the fancy jewelry and does not move to touch it.... even when she really wants to.
"What is she? I know she can use magic - is it magic? What does it mean to be called??"
"I expect she is a young woman just like you, who was given a transformation item just like this, which will work for none but her, and which gives her the power to fight the youma which have been slowly infiltrating human society."
Fighting youma???
"Uhhhhh, I don't think I'm allowed??? I'm only fifteen and - I don't know how to fight anything!"
Okay maybe she has gotten into a few fights at school and she's really very good at punching but she's definitely not allowed to do that. She got grounded for all of the times that happened.
"The brooch will enhance your abilities as well as give you access to the combined fighting skill of all your predecessors. It will take some time to work to the fullest but I expect you to find yourself nearing her ability level startlingly quickly, once you have initiated the first transformation." They pause to lick their paw again, going back to rubbing at the itchy spot on their cheek, before adding, "No one will know it is you behind the transformation, if your worry is that you might be caught."
"My dad knows everything. He'll take one look at me and know and we'll be stuck in a lecture that lasts a month and I won't be able to see Jun or Motoki or get any new comics-" She bites her lips and stares back down at the brooch. "Why me?"
Mrr, "I have no insight into that topic. The sailor items have always chosen their bearers wherever they please, when they were active."
Usagi wiggles uncomfortably in her seat. Anxious and excited and scared.
"Um." Her hand moves to touch the brooch, but she freezes just before. "Um. Can I..."
She doesn't know what to do. She has to restrain herself from shouting at the top of her lungs for her dad-
They nose it towards her, "Simply take it in hand and say," they sigh, "'Moon Power, Make Up.'"
The runs her thumb over the centre jewel and swallows hard. She's scared. She wants to do this. But she doesn't know much about it and she should get right up and take it to her dad.
"...can I think about it?"
"You could," Luna muses, "The longer you wait, however, the longer that youma in that jewelery shop nearby goes unchallenged, draining the energy of its customers and employees."
"Jewellery store?" Her Juni's mom owns the largest store in town, but that can't be-
"Yes. I tracked it down earlier this afternoon. I'm not sure where the real proprietess has ended up, but the creature currently running it is not 'Dao-san', no matter what she has the employees calling her."
Ahhh! "That's my best friend's mom! I - we have to help her."
And what if it hurts Jun? She stares down at the brooch and catches her breath.
They give her a pointed look, and then the brooch, "You know what you must do then."
She holds the brooch close and worries at the gems, but- Jun-
"Moon Power, Make Up?"
She feels a powerful surge of energy stream into her from the brooch, and then -
- everything around her drops away and she feels encased in the warm, powerful energy. Flashes of colour and stars and the bright white of the moon shine on her skin and she feels things change. Her hair, her face, her arms, torso, legs, everything. Finally a weight settles over her temple and she opens her eyes-
"Well, it suits you, Sailor Moon." Luna says, apparently underwhelmed. "Mrr, I suppose the flashy transformation is necessary for some reason," they add in an undertone.
Eeeee!!! She looks down at herself and her pretty new magic (!!) costume and then looks at herself in her mirror.
For some reason, the outfit looks remarkably like a skimpier version of a girls school uniform. The jewelery does elevate it somewhat, however, particularly the gems in her hair buns and the tiara on her forehead. The similarities to the outfit Sailor V wears are very obvious.
A tiara!!! She touches it carefully and wonders at how pretty and fancy it is. She's never worn anything this expensive before.
"Sailor Moon?"
